Like most dogs, Mable gets pretty excited by the postman coming to the door. But unlike most dogs, Mable’s excitement sends her straight to sleep!
As her owner Trevor Gliddon explains, bearded collie cross Mable suffers from canine narcolepsy, a condition so rare that vets are baffled as to how to treat her.
When she has one of her episodes – brought on by bouts of excitement – her tail wags furiously, and she runs around yelping before she suddenly hits the ground ‘like she’s been struck by a bullet’. Other triggers include playing with other dogs and being petted too vigorously.
Despite her unusual condition, Trevor wouldn’t swap narcoleptic dog Mable for anything, saying she is a huge part of the family, narcolepsy or not.
