We're all more than happy to suffer for fashion. But do we have any idea how much damage we're doing, or which fashions are the most dangerous to our health? These fashion health hazards might surprise you...
1. Sky-high heels
Firstly, if you fall whilst wearing these skyscrapers you can end up with a killer sprained ankle. Then there’s the position your feet are in whilst wearing them. Sure, they make your legs look great, but the gradient puts a massive amount of pressure on your ankles and can scrunch up your toes. Ouch!
2. Skintight trousers
Wearing skin tight trousers can lead to a whole host of problems. Skinny jeans are the height of fashion, but they are so restrictive they can cause infections like thrush and cystitis. Make sure your skinny jeans aren’t too skinny!
3. Ballerina pumps
Flats are good for your feet, right? Wrong! These shoes have literally no support and can lead to collapsed arches. They can also leave you with muscular problems because you tense your feet to keep them on. Try ballet pumps with more structure and a strap to keep your foot in place.
4. Heavy makeup
Most of us wear makeup every day. Heavy foundation can have a really negative impact on your skin though. That extra, heavy layer can leave you with clogged pores and spots. Try a bb cream or tinted moisturiser instead, and don’t forget to remove your makeup before you crash out!
5. Massive handbags
We love our handbags, but overfilling our oversized totes can be terrible for our backs. It can also affect your posture by throwing you off balance. Try alternating which side you wear your bag on to even out the load.
6. Pointy shoes
Many fashionable shoes have their problems and pointy shoes are no exception. They push your toes together which can leave you with bunions and corns. If you wear pointy shoes, make sure there is enough room for your toes to move!
7. Over-styled hair
Are you a fan of the back comb? Or maybe you are a peroxide addict? Over styling your hair can leave you with a dry and brittle barnet. It can even lead to hair loss! Try using an intensive moisturiser or hair mask to help your hair recover.
8. Tight pencil skirts
We’ve all been there. Trying to run or frankly just move quickly in a super tight pencil skirt, impossible! They’re great if you don’t need to be anywhere in a rush, but they’re a real hazard if you do! Falling over is almost inevitable. Don’t wear one of these when you’re running late for work.
9. Control knickers
These amazing things may make you look svelte, but they can cause indigestion and bloating if they’re too tight. Keep these beauties for special occasions, not everyday wear.
10. Tight updos and headbands
The tension of a hair band pulling your hair, or the pressure of a headband on your head can give you some killer headaches. Fine for a few hours, not ideal for a whole day.
