With Game of Thrones season 6 coming to an end, we decided to have a look back at some of our favourite characters from season 1-6 and, by some miracle, they've stayed alive for six whole seasons!
Season 1 – Daenerys Targaryen, daughter of the mad king, was just a timid child bride of Khal Drogo as her brother Viserys traded her to Drogo in exchange for an army to help invade Westeros. Daenerys spent season one learning to rule in her role as Khaleesi of the Khalasar and Khal Drogo’s wife.
Season 6 – A lot has happened to Daenerys throughout the seasons, she now has a mouthful of titles; Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons. Daenerys has gained an army of Dothraki, along with her advisors and three dragons she’s taken back Meeren and ended the threat of the slave masters and the Sons of the Harpy. Now Dany has an alliance with the Ironborn, with her army and their ships, they’re on their way to either Dorne to making an even bigger army or heading straight for Kings landing!
Season 1 – Tyrion Lannister was known in the Seven Kingdoms for his love of whore houses, wine, and his own quick wit. We quickly learn that Tyrion was sympathetic, intelligent and a keen observer of others.
Season 6 – Tyrion tries to keep peace in Meereen whilst Daenerys disappeared, he’s still quick witted and enjoys his wine but he’s a great negotiator and now stands beside Daenerys as one of her advisors.
Season 1 – Varys, sometimes referred to as the Spider, was a eunuch and Master of Whisperers on the Kings Small Council. He’s a skilled manipulator and commands a network of informations across two continents.
Season 6 – Varys is forced to flee Kings Landing with Tyrion and ends up in Meereen and shows where his true loyalties lie. He believes Daenerys’ rule would be the best way to preserve peace and prosperity in the Seven Kingdoms. Varys is a sneaky character, so who knows what he’s up to, what we do know is that his set up an alliance with Dorne and the Queen of Thorns now things are really getting interesting.
Season 1 – Petyr Baelish, also known as Littlefinger, was the owner of a brothel, member of the small council and master of coin in King’s Landing. And we mustn’t forget he was completely in love with Catelyn Stark.
Season 6 – He’s only popped up a few times this season but we can still see that Littlefinger is the master of manipulation. However, are his intentions changing by sending the knights of the Vale to help defeat Ramsay Bolton and restoring Winterfell to Sansa? But then again this is Littlefinger and he always seems to have a different motive. Let’s not forget he did previously state he would become Warden of the North.
Season 1 – At the start of the series Jon Snow was living in Winterfell as the bastard son of Eddard Stark. Jon volunteered to join the Brothers of the Night’s Watch after his father was named the Hand of the King.
Season 6 – Jon Snow was brought back to life by the Red Priestess, shortly after he was reunited with his sister Sansa, together with their army they fought to get Winterfell back. With this Jon left the Night’s Watch. All looked like it was over for Jon Snow again but he came fighting back! It’s pretty much been confirmed now we know R+L=J! We all knew it he comes from fire and ice, sadly Jon doesn’t know this, but he is King of the North. Let hope he does a better job at being King than his brother Robb.
Season 1 – Sansa Stark was the eldest daughter of Eddard and Catelyn Stark. She was a hopeless romantic who adored love stories and longed for the excitement of King’s Landing. She was completely naïve about the world and besotted with Joffrey, her intended and next in line to the throne.
Season 6 – Sansa escaped from Winterfell and fled to Castle Black to her brother Jon Snow. Sansa has learnt a lot over the years, she’s grown into a strong woman and understands much about the battles they face and their enemies. With Jon and their army they take back Winterfell and she gets her revenge on husband Ramsay Bolton. Sansa should be happy well happier she is safe away from her enemies but we think she’s jealous of Jon Snow as she secretly wants to be Queen of the North.
Season 1 – At the start of the series Arya was the tomboyish sister of the Starks, she hated everything her sister Sansa loved. They were the complete opposite. Arya preferred archery and sword fighting, Jon Snow even gave Arya her first sword needle in the first season.
Season 6 – Arya was slowly becoming No one at the House of White and Black, however she couldn’t let go of who she was and kill people just because she was told to. Arya has gained great fighting skills but we did see her get stabbed pretty badly, luckily Arya’s tough and made a true comeback once again becoming Arya Stark from Winterfell! And back on track with her list seeking revenge, who will be next to be ticked off her list…
Season 1 – Bran was a boy who liked to get up to mischief, his favourite hobby was climbing the walls of Winterfell, using its old rooftops and passageways to get around. Ten year old Bran, whilst exploring, catches Jaime and Cersei up to no good, Jaime pushes Bran out of the tower window, hoping it would kill him but it only left Bran paralysed.
Season 6 – Bran trains with the three eyed raven and learns more about the past to help him with what’s to come in the future. Bran witnesses the Children of the Forest create the first White Walker. During a vision the Night King touches Bran and comes for him. With this we lost one of our beloved characters Hodor this season…well done Bran breaking millions of hearts. Now Bran has become the three eyed raven so let’s hope we get some answers from the visions we keep seeing from Bran.
Season 1 – Rickon is the youngest of the Stark children, and he looks up to all his brothers and sisters, he only watches when the others practice archery as he was too young to join in.
Season 6 – The last time we saw Rickon was in season 3, now he’s a teenager and has been captured by Ramsay Bolton. Just before the battle against Jon Snow, Ramsay frees Rickon and makes him run to Jon. As we all know, you can never trust Ramsay and he shoots Rickon with an arrow killing him just before he reaches Jon. We all thought whilst watching, why didn’t you zigzag Rickon, why?!
Season 1 – Theon Greyjoy was the ward of Eddard Stark, they treated him well and he even became best friends with Robb Stark. Theon was cocky and arrogant but was a skilled archer.
Season 6 – After escaping Winterfell with Sansa, Theon returns home to the Iron Islands where he tries to help his sister Yara claim the Salt Throne. Things don’t go to plan and their uncle claims the Throne instead. They flee taking a massive fleet of ships and forming an alliance with Daenerys.
Season 1 – Cersei Lannister spent the first season engaged in a power struggle to seize the Iron Throne for her family. She plotted to kill her husband King Robert and succeeded, before taking over the small council and making her eldest born son Joffrey the King of the Seven Kingdoms.
Season 6 – Cersei isn’t quite the powerful lady she once was, staying in the Red Keep with her bodyguard The Mountain always close by and Qyburn. Cersei is currently awaiting trial for adultery, incest and murder. Cersei had Qyburn investigate an old rumour she was told about, all we know is that the rumour was found to be much more than a rumour….and that rumour was Wildfire! Cersei used the wildfire to bomb and wipe out her enemy, unfortunately for her this cost Cersei her last remaining child. Now she has nothing to loose, and is once again The Queen of The Seven Kingdoms.
Season 1 – Jaime Lannister, known for killing the mad king, earning him the name King Slayer. He starts out the series as quite the villain as he tosses 10 year old Bran Stark out of a tower window after Bran caught Jaime and his twin sister Cersei having sex.
Season 6 – The beginning of season 6 sees Jaime return from Dorne with Myrcella’s corpse after she was poisoned. Jaime is a different man from season 1, he appears more caring and will do anything for his family who are falling apart. He is still Lord Commander of the Kingsuard where he’s sent to take back Riverrun which he does after threatening Edmure Tully. Whilst at Riverrun Jaime was reunited with Brienne and learns that Sansa is in the North. Returning to King’s Landing Jaime knew something was wrong and to see his sister being crown Queen told him everything. What’s next for Jaime, we will have to see…
Season 1 – Tommen was played by Callum Wharry, he’s only a small child in the first series so we only see him a few times, once in Winterfell and at the tournament to celebrate Eddard Stark becoming Hand of the King. Tommen is a good natured child in contrast to his brother Joffery.
Season 6 – Tommen is the current King of Westeros. Both Tommen and his wife Margaery have taken sides with the High Sparrow and now follow the faith of the Seven. What we know about Tommen is that he is naïve, well meaning but easy to manipulate, so let’s face it, with a personality like his, he wouldn’t have survived much longer. It all got too much for poor sweet Tommen, with the death of his wife and his faith now gone there wasn’t a lot left for him, after stepping out of a window Tommen is no more.
Season 1 – Lancel Lannister was King Robert’s timid squire. Though he seemed the cowardly type, we must remember he did help to kill King Robert and also slept with his cousin, Cersei Lannister.
Season 6 – Lancel has become a member of the religious cult in King’s Landing that is known as the Sparrows. He has cut his hair, had the Seven Pointed Star carved into his forehead, and helped imprison Cersei. In the epic last episode we saw Lancel get stabbed by the little birds right in front of the stash of wildfire, which inevitably killed him in the end.
