Are you a sofa hogger, a rule breaker or heaven forbid, a floppy koala?
Grab a cuppa, put your feet up (or not as the case may be!) and find out what your favourite sofa sitting position reveals about you…!
The Twisted Crosser
The most popular position in the UK. If you sit like this, you’re:
* The fourth most likely to be happy with your sex life
* The least likely to feel as though you’re very fit and healthy
Expert body language analysis: This position is likely to be adopted by people who are keen to relax but don’t want to let their guard down completely. This position forces your body to be one-sided with one leg crossed over the other at the knee, which could mean your thinking is focussed and controlled.
The Sofa Hogger
This is the 2nd most popular position in the UK. If you sit like this, you’re:
* The most likely to have an active social life and second most likely to have lots of friends
* Third most likely (if you’re in a relationship) to be in a happy relationship
* Second most likely to be happy with your sex life
Expert analysis: Taking up this much space is a dominant way to sit on a sofa, but this doesn’t necessarily mean you are dominant in general. As you’re the most likely to have an active social life and the second most likely to have lots of friends, this is probably showing more of a quietly confident and contented sitter.
The Tucking Leaner
This is the 3rd most popular position in the UK. If you sit like this, you’re:
* Second most likely to have an active social life
* The most likely to be happy with your sex life
Expert analysis: This position is similar to the ‘Foetal’ position. This is often related to feelings of anxiety, but our study shows the opposite – so, this probably reflects being as contented as a baby and dealing with life’s stresses with ease.
The Paint Me Like One Of Your French Girls Jack
This is the 4th most popular position in the UK. If you sit like this, you’re:
* You’re the most likely to have a lot of friends
* The most likely (if you’re single) to be happily single, but you’re also the second most likely to want to have more sex
* Second most likely to have a take away at least once a week
Expert analysis:
This position is adopted most by people who hate their job unfortunately – which could be the reason why people who sit like this appear to be focussing on destressing and relaxing as much as they can.
The Precise Percher
This is the 5th most popular position in the UK. If you sit like this, you’re:
* The second most likely (if you’re in a relationship) to be in a happy relationship
* Least likely to be a risk taker
Expert analysis:
A formal and slightly restrained position – this body language is the least likely to be adopted by people who are risk takers or people who feel they’re successful in their careers.
The Sofa Buddha
This is the 6th most popular position in the UK. If you sit like this, you’re:
* THE MOST likely to be a risk taker, to have lots of sex and to be very fit and healthy!
Expert analysis: This position reflects an overall contentment and inner confidence. The straight back and shoulders open up the chest, which allows for better breathing which is likely to be reflected in a composed and calm sitter.
The Loud and Proud
This is the 7th most popular position in the UK. If you sit like this, you’re:
* The most likely to wish you had more sex
* The most likely to have a take away at least once a week
Expert analysis: An over-exaggerated confident posture – this tallies with the findings that you’re the most likely to be a high earner, so very likely to be adopted by people who feel they’re talented and experiencing life to its fullest.
The Floor Rebel
This is the 8th most popular position in the UK
Expert analysis:
This isn’t sitting on the sofa at all! This position shuns the sofa. It’s likely to be adopted by anyone who either doesn’t find their sofa very comfortable or by someone who likes to do things their own way and not be shackled by rules.
The Floppy Koala
This is the 9th most popular position in the UK
Expert analysis:
This is a very unusual position, so as you’d expect the type of people who adopt it are likely to be slightly off beat too. Laying across the sofa back with your hands resting underneath your head could give the impression this type of person is super relaxed and able to chill out anywhere.
The Rule Breaker
This is the 10th most popular position in the UK
Expert analysis:
The total opposite of how most people would sit on their sofa, so not a total surprise to see it ranks way down at 10th in terms of popularity in our study. It’s like you were sitting comfortably and then you decided to just look at the world in a different way – upside down perhaps?!
The I’m Not Staying Long
This is the 11th most popular position in the UK
Expert analysis:
Similar to the Precise Percher this isn’t so much a position of comfort as a state of readiness. Feet firmly grounded, hands on knees ready to spring into action immediately if it’s called for. Most likely to be adopted by people who feel they’re busy all the time and actually don’t have time to sit down and relax.
The Back Seater
This is the 12th most popular position in the UK
