After meeting online, Brits Amy Taylor and David Pollard’s love blossomed in real life, and through the virtual reality computer game, Second Life. Amy and David married, and so did their Second Life avatars. But when Amy discovered David’s avatar was seeing another virtual woman, she called off the marriage in the game – and in real life. Though there was no suggestion that David had cheated in the physical world, Amy was still heartbroken. ‘His was the ultimate betrayal,’ she was reported as saying later. ‘He had been lying to me.’
Broken heart (and willy)
When Russian man Grigory Toporov’s wife told him he didn’t measure up in the bedroom, he agreed to get a penis extension to help satisfy her needs. But during one vigorous sex session, Grigory’s new appendage broke off.
Though Grigory should have been the injured party here, Mrs Toporov was apparently not happy. And losing the end of his willy also saw the end of Grigory’s marriage. ‘I told her I would get a new one but she wasn’t having any of it. She said she was fed up with my failures in bed and wants a divorce,’ he told the Press. Ouch! That’s gotta hurt!
When a divorcee living in Arizona started getting flu-like symptoms and gastric problems after handling alimony cheques from her ex-hubby, she grew suspicious. Especially as the cheques had brown smears on them. Handing them over to authorities, tests showed ‘numerous hits for organic substances that contained proteins and active biological materials.’ In layman’s terms, they’d been smeared with poo! The ex-hubby, from New York, was charged with sending hazardous materials through the U.S. Mail. What a stinker!
It wasn’t Emma Brady’s hubby Neil who told her they were getting divorced – it was her friend, who lived miles away in Denmark! Emma’s mate had spotted a Facebook post that read: Neil Brady has ended his marriage to Emma Brady, and was calling to check up on her pal. The case, which was dubbed the first ‘Facebook divorce’ came to light at Blackburn Magistrates Court in 2009, where Neil Brady admitted assaulting Emma following the incident. She told the court: ‘This whole thing has been really terrible. All the friends I have on the site are people I have known for years so it’s been really humiliating having everything happen so publicly.’
Let it go
A man in Japan posted on a messageboard that his marriage had come to a chilly end – all because he didn’t like the Disney film Frozen. His wife was obsessed with the animated superhit, and couldn’t accept that her hubby didn’t feel the same. She allegedly told him: ‘If you can’t understand what makes this movie great, there’s something wrong with you as a human being’ before declaring their marriage was over. So cold-hearted…
Divorce stories often involve spreading muck, but this tale takes it to the extreme. After being served with divorce papers, one Canadian man allegedly took messy revenge by filling his ex’s hot tub with smelly manure! Police were called and the man had to be taken down with pepper spray when officers caught up with him. We wouldn’t fancy using that hot tub again!
