We can remember so clearly setting down to watch these iconic animated 70s shows when we were kids. We wanted to share those happy, nostalgic moments with you, so decided to bring you the 7 cartoons we never missed. See if these bring back happy memories for you, too...

1. Wacky Races

Lots of fun vehicles and colourful characters are in a crazy (well, wacky, in fact!) race, where they try to outdo each other with their scheming. Our favourites were Dick Dastardly and his sniggering pooch Mutley, and glamorous Penelope Pitstop with her automatic lipstick applicator! Watch the intro here…

2. Flintstones

Before the successful movies with real actors, was this delightful cartoon version featuring the modern Stone Age family. Residing in Bedrock were Fred Flintstone, his wife Wilma and eventually daughter Pebbles. Their neighbours and pals were Barney Rubble and wife Betty who adopted an unnaturally strong son, Bamm-Bamm, who befriended Pebbles. We thought their inventions using prehistoric animals were amazing. See some here…

3. Road Runner

All together now: ‘Beep! Beep!’ This is the taunting sound the speedy bird uses as he outwits Wile E Coyote on one of Wile’s repeated attempts to catch and eat Road Runner. Coyote’s never successful, despite the absurdly complex contraptions and elaborate plans he uses to pursue his prey. Watch Wile get outwitted here…

4. Scooby-Doo

Another animated show that’s now a film franchise with live actors. We prefer the original with a cartoon Shaggy, his best friend, the scaredy Great Dane Scooby-Doo, and their crime-fighting gang. The series was so popular that other shows were created featuring Scooby’s nephew Scrappy-Doo, but fans were pretty unanimous in their dislike of poor Scrappy! The gang often foil supernatural baddies in disguise with plans to take over the world. And, of course, the villains always say ‘…and I would have got away with it, too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids…’ Enjoy the shows here…

5. The Pink Panther Show

Not the movies starring Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau, but the cartoon big cat. Although used during the opening credits of the Clouseau films, he also had his own show in which he was portrayed as a moral cartoon cat with pink fur and the manners of an English aristocrat. The catchy theme tune and stylish credits stick in our minds to this day. Do they jog memories for you? Watch it now…

6. Top Cat

Living in a New York alley, Top Cat, is a clever hustler whose close friends call him TC. He and his band of streetwise felines get involved in assorted scams, gambling activities and harebrained stunts, all in the pursuit of a fast dollar. Keeping an eye on things is Officer Dibble, a beat cop who has his hands full trying to break up TC’s shenanigans. Enjoy the scamming moggy in these ingenious opening credits here…

7. Hong Kong Phooey

With the secret identity of Penrod ‘Penry’ Pooch and working at a police station as a janitor, Penry jumps into a filing cabinet where he disguises himself as Hong Kong Phooey. He then gets equipped with the Phooeymobile which transforms into whichever vehicle is needed, depending on what type of crime-fighting Phooey has to undertake with his unique brand of Kung Fu! See this sequence unfold here…
