We’ve all fallen victim to a wardrobe faux pas at some point. Even celebrities get it wrong. We look back at some trends, past and present, that would have the fashion police putting on their sirens!

1. Kitten heels

A.K.A ‘what’s the point?’ heels. Not only are these shoes particularly hard to walk in, let’s face it, they do nothing for accentuating our pins. Just because they featured in Vogue, does not make them fashionable. Sorry!

2. Leggings with short tops

Let’s be honest, we’ve probably all done it. But wearing a top that doesn’t cover our legging-clad behind is just a recipe for disaster. Knickers on show, or worse…the dreaded camel toe, are never good looks.

3. Business suits with trainers

This look can be found on many busy commuter trains. People hoping for a comfy journey into work swap their smart work shoes for trainers. The outcome is never going to be good. Smart and sporty just don’t mix.

4. Short ties

What is it with the obsession to have short ties at school? We all did it, made sure our tie was only a few inches long. But why?

5. Knock-off fashion

‘Goochi’ and ‘Channel’ handbags, ‘Roy Ban’ sunglasses, and ‘Pradah’ shoes. You can tell a cheap knock-off a mile off.

6. Shoes with labels on

A big white price sticker on the sole of your new shoes is hard to miss. And as much as you tell yourself that it will soon wear away on the pavement or wash off after stomping in a few puddles, it won’t. Just take it off.

7.  Fake glasses

If you don’t need glasses, don’t wear them. Simple as that.

8. The fedora

Kate Moss could pull it off, but only just. Sadly, for the rest of us, there was no way we could ever have made this hat cool.

9. Double denim

In theory it makes sense to wear your favourite denim jacket with your favourite pair of jeans, doesn’t it? But unless the look you’re going for is a fifth member of 90s pop group, Bewitched, don’t try this look at home.

10. Fishnet tights

Stick-thin models with envious pins make them look good, but the reality is that they rarely look classy.

11. White tops with black bras

Finding a bra that doesn’t show up under a white top can be excruciating. But black bras ALWAYS show up. And people ALWAYS notice. Try a nude, flesh-coloured bra next time.

12. Pop socks on show

Fine to wear, but never, ever let these bad boys be seen. They’re supposed to be the invisible sock, remember.

13. Control pants

Magic pants! A staple in most women’s wardrobes, but like number 13, never let these be seen. A magician never reveals his secrets.

14. Sandals with socks

Need we say more!

15. Bobbly tights

Ladders, pulls, holes and bobbles – all very unsightly on tights.

16. Pyjama bottoms in public

Pyjama bottoms are not trousers and should not be worn out – even to the supermarket to do an early morning shop… however tempting it might be!
