Although many of these now seem old-fashioned and some may even be obsolete, we can remember when we thought they were best thing since… well, sliced bread of course! Which is number one on our list, obviously!

1. Sliced Bread

Every invention has been described as the best thing since sliced bread. That’s cos it’s brilliant and the nation loves it and so do we!

2. Slush Puppies

Brightly coloured sweet crushed ice, Slush is lush. Except it can make littl’uns a bit hyperactive.

3. Cash Machines

The days of queueing for hours in the bank are long gone, thanks to hole-in-the-wall machines. We’re not so keen on the ones that charge a fee to make a withdrawal, though.

4. Tape Recorders

As well as recording Sunday’s top 40 from the radio and trying not to get the DJ talking, we also loved recording plays with our pals. Coconut shells knocked together create a brilliant headless horseman riding his steed!

5. Colour TVs

Suddenly everything on screen came alive when we got a colour TV. All the food in ads made us hungry for the first time cos it looked so real. On the down side, we could see all the frighteningly bright clashing 70s decor in all its horrific glory!

6. Video Recorders

How could it be possible to go out when our favourite programme was on and not miss it! Video recorders that’s how! You could also rent films from video shops and often your corner shop, who’d set up a section when renting films became so popular. And for Christmas and birthdays, you could ask friends and family to buy you box sets of your favourite series.

7. Onesies

So snuggly and easy to wear. Some people even go out in them! Not us, we believe, as with Crocs, that onesies should be enjoyed in the comfort (apt word) of your own home.

8. Phonecards

Before everyone had mobiles, when you used a phone box, you had to fiddle around to find enough coins to last the entire conversation as otherwise the pips would sound and you’d get cut off. So phonecards were a godsend. They were prepaid and showed how much cash was left, so you didn’t get silenced mid-sentence!

9. Breakfast Biccies

When you’re busy and don’t have enough time to eat breakfast, the option to have a biscuit as a replacement is fab as far as we’re concerned. Plus, we don’t always fancy a proper brekkie, so a biccie is just fine with us!

10. Shampoo-and-conditioner-in-one

Wow! How clever. Why take two bottles into the shower? Well, we won’t now. Thanks hair-product manufacturers for this ingenious concept!

11. Wet Wipes

What did we do before wet wipes came along? Damp flannels aren’t the same at all. We now carry these everywhere and have a large dispenser of them at home, too. They’re great if you have kids and if you don’t…

12. Ugg Boots

Love these! And we’re not the only ones. Although not cheap, Uggs have taken the nation by storm (although they’re not good in a storm as they get a bit soggy).

13. Electronic Foot Spas

When we got one of these for Christmas we felt so posh! After a busy day, you filled this with water, switched it on and it vibrated and soothed your sore tootsies. We do, however, think there may be quite a few of these now collecting dust in cupboards, as they are a little cumbersome to use.

14. Sporks

What a great word. Fork plus spoon: spork. Like Brangelina but in cutlery world. With a normal handle and a mixure of spoon and fork at the oher end. Ingenious
