In Part Two of our six-part series, we bring you another quintet of things that we’d like to see go into Room 101 and never darken our doorstep again! See if the following drive you mad, too…

1. Whistling out of tune

We’re not talking Roger Whittaker here (hands up if you remember him!) – he really knows how to blow a good tune, as it were! The guilty parties we want to chuck down the Room 101 chute are those who whistle randomly without a single note resembling the tune they’re trying to recreate. They also seem to stop and start whenever the mood takes them. And they always want to be heard – like they’re proud of their out-of-tune warblings!

2. Potatoes with warts

It’s good to know when your spuds are on the turn, but do they have to grow those horrid appendages that look like warts?! Couldn’t they just go a bit green? There’s actually a term for this, it’s called chitting, and gardeners can encourage this by keeping potatoes in a light, warm place. But we’re not gardeners…and fancied a jacket spud with beans and cheese…and had to flick off all the warts before we could bung our potato in the oven.

3. Earpieces that fall out

Why does it have to be so tricky to keep those fiddly little earpieces in your ear? We use ours when we go jogging, so don’t want those big headphones that everyone seems to favour these days. But we’ve barely started our run and the little earpieces start to wriggle out of our lugholes. We were enjoying listening to our motivational ‘get-moving’ tunes, but had to stop mid-jog to push the pesky things back into place.

4. Seagulls stealing food

The sound of seagulls squawking, we love – it reminds us of being by the seaside. But aggressive grub-grabbing gulls, we can do without! This scene was captured last September in Llandudno in Wales. Just look at that cheeky bird making off with somebody’s ice-cream cornet in its beak!

5. Woollens that shrink in the wash

You loved that pretty cardi when you bought it. But after just one whizz round in the washing machine, it ended up looking like this! What a disappointment… You put it on in the hope that it might stretch a little bit, but it isn’t looking too likely…  Those buttons are under serious duress – if you breathe out, they may well pop right off!

Join us again next Friday for five more things we want to put into Room 101
